How is AMA judged?

AMA is judged by an Academy of approximately 300 professionals from across the Aotearoa music industry, with smaller, curated Judging Schools voting on genre, artisan, and the Best Māori and Mana Reo categories. We have reviewed and refreshed both the Judging Academy and individual Judging Schools, with a commitment to representation for Māori, diversity and inclusion, and appropriate representation across music industry roles and sectors. Some award categories will be judged by a smaller judging panel. More information about those categories will be shared in early-2024.

Do I need to be a member of Recorded Music NZ to enter AMA?

No, membership of Recorded Music is not an eligibility requirement for AMA – although we do recommend you register with Recorded Music if you are an owner of copyright in sound recordings. Membership makes it easy for right holders to collect royalties when their work is broadcast on radio or television, communicated via the internet in certain limited instances and when it is performed in public.
